Studio Notes and Substack

Studio Notes is a place for that in-between work.

Studio Notes

I’ve started an occasional newsletter called Studio Notes as a way to create more space around how my work unfolds.

Much of my practice—across painting, public art, teaching, and research—moves slowly. Ideas develop over time, through repetition, revision, and sustained attention rather than through finished statements. While exhibitions and projects often mark moments of visibility, they rarely hold the thinking that happens in between.

Studio Notes is a place for that in-between work.

The newsletter functions as a writing and research companion to my studio practice: a space to share reflections on color, abstraction, cultural memory, and participation as they are actively being worked through. Some entries may take the form of short studio notes or observations; others may move closer to essays or project-specific reflections. All of them are grounded in process rather than conclusion.

My hope is that Studio Notes allows for a quieter, more durable form of engagement—one that values curiosity over immediacy and depth over frequency. It’s not meant to document everything, but to hold moments of thinking that might otherwise remain private or unarticulated.

This space also allows me to share ongoing projects, including

, in a way that centers inquiry and responsibility rather than promotion. Writing here is part of how I remain accountable to the questions my work raises.

You can find Studio Notes on Substack. New entries will be shared occasionally, when there is something meaningful to add to the conversation.
